The Tangled Orchid Garden
This class will expand your tangling horizons and get your creative juices flowing. Our first focus will be drawing tropical plants - big juicy leaves, spirals of fiddleheads, exotic orchids - using the principles of the Zentangle® method to make the process relaxing and meditative. Next we will learn how to use watercolors and watercolor pencils to make the tropical garden come alive with colour and drama. Finally you will be shown how a few simple cuts and folds can turn your finished artwork into a stunning, dimensional accordion book. The finished book looks amazing and you can make it even if you have no previous experience with painting or bookmaking.
Moving students from classic black on white into color can be challenging. In this class Nysha will guide us how to advance our students into color, Renaissance and beyond, using seven tools. The class utilizes directions that enable you to simultaneously teach 24 different effects on the Renaissance tiles and grey paper. By the end of the class you’ll have a wonderful portfolio of tiles to use in your beyond the basics classes!
Matchmaking for Tangles
Ever have a tile turn out like a bad blind date? Each Tangle is beautiful and interesting but they just don’t seem to get along together? In this class you will learn to use the three B’s of boundaries, bridges, and blends, to do a little tangle matchmaking that will enable you to create beautiful, exciting, dramatic and interesting drawings. In addition this class will feature a couple of new tangles, utilize the “sand colored” Renaissance tiles and have a Tropical Paradise theme.
Pan Pastels - From Basics to Bokah
Luscious, rich color...PanPastel Artist Pastels are highly blendable, ultra soft and loaded with pigment. They are easy to use once you know the basics, yet deliver a sophisticated painterly look. PanPastel Artist Pastels are quite forgiving — an excellent option for introducing color to Zentangle Inspired Art, for you and your students.
PanPastel Artist Pastels offer so much; they mix well with color pencils and other media and are not dusty like pastel sticks. We'll learn about the tools and tricks, and explore layering, blending, a subtractive technique, as well as a fun technique to achieve a bokeh effect.
Flexagons as Reticula for Tangle Fragments
Flexagons are polygons made from simple strips of paper. They have the fascinating property of changing their faces when they are "flexed." The faces of the flexagons provide a perfect grid for tangle fragments. As the flexagons are "flexed" different meta patterns appear and therefore becomes an interactive kaleidoscope.
Participants will construct a variety of flexagons. Rectangular ones with faces composed of square grids, hexagonal ones with triangular grids, and 3-dimensional ones. Experimentation with rotation and reflections in the fragment placement on grid will produce pleasant surprises.
All instructions and diagrams for constructing flexagons will provided in reproducible form.
